Jeff was an excellent trainer for me and my newly adopted 1 year old beagle “ Buddy”. He explains very clearly your dogs mentality and teaches you how to communicate your expectations to your dog. My only initial goal was to walk my dogs in a controlled and enjoyable manner. Jeff enable me to teach him to walk with a loose leash and several other basic commands.
Our dog had bad habits from a previous owner and did not get along with other dogs. He was hard to walk in any setting where other dogs were likely to be around. After spending ten days with Jeff, our dog's behavior has changed. More specifically, we are now able to communicate to our dog what we expect. He understands when we tell him that a behavior is not okay. It is so much more fun to walk Ty because he isn't pulling or tripping me. We really did receive the promised results.
Jeff is an excellent trainer. Not only did he help my dog, Cash, but he also taught me many things that I have been doing wrong for years. I recommend Blue Bridge Dog Training to anyone who wants a great experience for both you and your dog.
We cannot say enough about the many ways Blue Bridge Training has benefitted our family! Baden came to us about a year old with no prior discipline, manners, or even much attention being paid to him by his owners. He was pretty much left to make his own decisions on what was acceptable doggie behavior and you can imagine how that developed. We weren't sure we could even keep him because his behavior was so out of control and exhausting; he couldn't manage leash walking or even getting out the door without barreling through, he was overly excited when company came, even feeding time was chaos. We knew there was a puppy in him wanting to please and be settled but had no idea how to get through to him. We signed up for the Superior Program after meeting with Jeff and believing he saw the same potential in Baden. We dropped off an unsettled, rude and rowdy pup and 18 days later we brought home a settled, secure, well mannered pup who was eager to show all he had learned with Jeff. We also brought home the skills to follow up and maintain Baden's training which not only helps to reinforce all he has learned but has strengthened our bond with Baden through the time spent and trust built as we continue his training. Since his time with Blue Bridge, Baden is a much calmer and happier dog. We believe the structure we all learned from training with Jeff has done wonders for giving Baden the security he needed to relax and settle into being a much loved part of our family. Jeff has been available any time we have had follow up questions since the initial training and he has been invested in Baden's (and our) success from day one - he even celebrates Baden's milestones with us when we share video clips! I think what we have found as valuable as the actual training is how Jeff is committed his clients’ happiness and success.
We had Jeff work with our dog Cole on some behavioral and anxiety issues. Jeff was patient and understanding with both Cole and ourselves, and provided excellent instruction, feedback, and ideas to help Cole behave better both in public and at home. Jeff is an excellent dog trainer, and his experience is evident. We genuinely appreciate the time he spent working with Cole and are happy to say that Cole is now a much better behaved and social dog. We would highly recommend Jeff and Blue Bridge Dog Training to anyone who has a much loved pet that needs some guidance on behaving better!rnrn
UPDATE #1: While we still consider Cole a work in progress (aren't they always), he's been soooo much better. We can't thank you enough for your expertise! We don't dread people coming over anymore and Cole is much more friendly to guests. He's also so in love with our daughter. When we get home he runs to check for her (not us anymore). Thanks for everything!
We adopted a Black Lab mix from the HES, and she is extremely strong willed. Lacy was very destructive, aggressive, guarding, and difficult to train. We had no success training her even though we took her to a group dog training program. We decided to hire a professional dog trainer and selected Jeff Leavitt. He created a customized board and train program followed by training sessions at our home. He did a very good job of instructing us in training Lacy. Jeff was always on time and did a great job of communicating with us during the process. He sent us videos during her training at the facility which were wonderful for us to see progress and how she was doing. Lacy is still very strong willed, but Jeff has trained her to where she is now very manageable, and we have to carry on his training techniques. Now we are able to enjoy Lacy as a pet. We would heartily recommend Jeff as a Professional dog trainer. He delivered more than he promised and always took all time necessary in our home training sessions.
I really liked getting answers to specific questions I had. That reassured me that this training would be worthwhile. After getting the basic commands down we’re now able to work on other areas together.
Jeff worked with me on getting a schedule to train my dog as I could not do a standard class all at one time. Every class was excellent. Jeff is a wonderful trainer, he must be one of the original dog whisperers; just great with Grimm. Grimm responded very well with Jeff and began learning the wanted behavior quickly. I learned tricks and techniques on how to get Grimm to do what she is expected to easily from Jeff. I am very grateful for the class I took and look forward to passing the Canine good citizens test because of his help.
Jeff is great to work with and my pup loved him! He really was great with Bella and helped with all my questions and concerns. You can tell how much Jeff loves working with dogs. Bella really did a 180 in terms of how well she behaved. Jeff teaches the owner the proper way to handle their dog which really helps in correcting bad behaviors. I am so glad I was recommended to Jeff!
I swear Jeff is a dog whisperer. We got our money's worth on the first lesson. The other 5 lessons were just gravy. HIGHLY recommended!
I found Jeff from a Google search. He had a video on his site that was influential in choosing him and I also like the philosophy of training and commands he used which were close to what I already use. Training the dog is easier than training myself! Finch is a 1 year old Irish Terrier that was mainly needing help paying attention and following commands. He pulled throughout his whole walk, distracted by dogs, kids, etc. I chose the high distraction training that was a board and train for 18 days. Jeff presented a nice video after the first week showing the commands that Finch was learning and how he had learned to perform them. Very helpful to go back and review and makes you proud of your dog and Jeff! Three weeks later Finch is still following well the commands and performing well. I have asked Jeff a few question about the best way to remind or reinforce and he gives advice that Finch is used to and understands. Very happy with the results.
My dog Holly is a very lovable, playful, and intelligent dog, but was also very stubborn and not obedient, making her a frustration to manage at times, in the home and out in public. It was maddening for her to not respond when asked to stay or wait, and not 'come' when called--and it wasn't safe for her! Looking like she was part 'pit bull', I thought, made it all the more important than with other dogs that she be under complete control. Blue Bridge's training made an amazing difference in Holly. She is still the same curious, lovable dog, but even she seems happier and more relaxed to know her limits. Jeff did a lot of work before the training began with me to understand exactly what I needed and expected from training. I opted for the Superior dog training track, but it really felt like a custom track. Jeff gave me updates on her progress during the training. Jeff also bonds with the trainee dog by spending lots of casual time in normal home-type and backyard-type situations, as well as socializes them with his own dogs (only if appropriate). After approximately two weeks of training, it was easy for me to learn the commands from Jeff--which of course is key--all training is ongoing. Holly is equally responsive to me when I gave the commands and corrections appropriately. Once home, if she tested me a little, but I was ready with appropriate responses. If I had any question, no matter how small, Jeff was very responsive and helpful. And still is if I have any questions. When we had our 'follow up' lesson, Holly was overjoyed to see him again and I would say is an A+ student. We take her to restaurants and on PLEASANT loose leash walks. We walk her, not the other way around.
We were very happy to bring home an "almost new" Olive. We can definitely see a difference in her overall demeanor in addition to her newly learned commands. Thanks Jeff!
Jeff loves what he does and is great at it. We sent our 3 year old heeler mix, Xena, for a week of training, while we were away on vacation and she would have needed to be boarded anyway. She wasn't a bad dog, but was a dog with a lot of energy and we struggled with how to teach her. After just a week, it was amazing what a different dog we came home to! She was only learning basic commands (some of which she knew but wasn't consistent with), but what we learned most is that she loves to learn. When I showed up for our lesson the day I was scheduled to pick her up, it was fun watching her interact with Jeff and how she would watch him to figure out what he was going to ask her to do next. It is now so much more enjoyable to walk her without feeling like my shoulder had a workout the whole time pulling her back. She also loves when we go to the big field at Greenway and she gets to "practice" her off leash commands. She gets so excited and will now just put herself in down-stay before we even give her the commands.
When my husband and I first began to consider sending Roddick to a training program I was very skeptical. Upon meeting Jeff and listening to him answer my one million questions, I quickly became impressed and excited to see what all this training could do for us. To say that Blue Bridge Dog Training exceeded my expectations would be an understatement. Jeff was so good with Roddick. He demanded obedience from Roddick in a way that did not startle or scare him. Every training session I saw Roddick complete always ended positively and with many "good boy!'s". We have now had Roddick back with us for almost a week and the progress he has made since we dropped him off at Blue Bridge 4 weeks ago is phenomenal. We are forever thankful for Blue Bridge Dog Training for helping us have a dog that is not only trained, but a good citizen.
Our border collie puppy, Cosmo, started training with Jeff at our home when he was 12 weeks. Cosmo is energetic and strong willed but ultimately aims to please. Jeff did an outstanding job getting Cosmo to listen to him and follow his instruction. It is enjoyable to walk Cosmo now. My wife and I continue to work with Cosmo using the techniques Jeff taught us. We are extremely satisfied with the service Jeff provided and would confidently recommend Blue Bridge Dog Training.
We rescued Brick from a local shelter and she didn't act like a dog that had spent 90% of her 9 months in a cage. She was a sweet, friendly, happy character with few manners. She jumped whenever someone new came around. I run a non-profit in Nashville and take her to work with me. I needed her to act better in an office setting and eventually be able to go with me to outdoor restaurants and some of our outdoor events, as she is turning into the Foundations mascot dog. rnI knew I was not qualified to train her and contacted Jeff. Jeff was very thorough before she arrived for her training. He asked for pictures of the office and notes on our daily activities. Asked what things were more important than others. Knowing that she would be in high activity areas at times, he took her to areas that would simulate the places I would take her. We got update videos that really helped us view her progress. When we picked her up, we spent over an hour working with Jeff and Brick. We needed to be consistent with Jeff's training. He explained that she would probably "test the waters" with us and she immediately did that at the office. I just followed Jeff's directions and quickly got her back on track. The key, now, is to train myself, so the commands are second nature. We are very pleased with the results that Jeff produced with Brick.
Mazie was not doing well with her lease training and simple commands until we took her to Jeff. Mazie is doing much better at following on her lease and commands. We are very pleased.
We were very comfortable having Jeff train Sammi, as he was not only calm and assertive but also kind and loving during the process. It is clear that he truly cares about the well-being of his canine clients. Jeff was very responsive to us while Sammi was at Blue Bridge and even sent us a video showing her progress after she learned all her commands. He has also been available to answer any questions since we brought Sammi home and provided us with a notebook of instructions for ongoing reference. Since Jeff taught us how to use his training methods, we are now confident in continuing Sammi's training at home so that she maintains her excellent behavior!
BBDT provided a much needed option for training our 8 mo. old Giant Schnauzer. We are quite pleased with the results and especially with the guidance for continued improvement.
We were amazed with the results we saw. Teddy went from never checking-in or listening to anyone, to constantly checking in to see what to do next. We were scared that he would only listen to Jeff, and not to us. However, he has been listening to our commands and checking-in with us non-stop. Teddy's training fixed behavioral issues, Jeff didn't even address, just by listening to us. Not only are we happier dog parents, but we can tell that he is a happier dog. We cannot thank Jeff enough!!
Having two young children, and being a family who loves to play outdoors and go hiking, it was important for us to have Addie learn to be calm and gentle on the leash and not roam away from our family during playtime or hikes. After two weeks with Jeff, on her first day home, she sat calmly by my side while the children carved pumpkins for Halloween and played with the boys in the front yard, never straying more than a few feet from her Humans! She now waits patiently at entrances and exits, a welcome change from when she used to bolt out any open door. Not only did Jeff return Addie to us with great manners, but now she clearly understands the expectations we have for her behavior, and seems happy and very eager to please us and show off everything she learned. In addition to excellent training services, Blue Bridge Dog Training's boarding facilities are top notch, beautiful, and meticulously clean. Addie seemed very comfortable and extremely happy to be there! Thank you for everything Jeff!
We could not be more pleased and satisfied with the level of training our dog, Molly was taught. Molly's behavior before Blue Bridge Dog Training was hyper, non-attentive, disobedient and quite irritating when around other people. We saw the difference in her the minute we picked her up at the end of her training. The difference we've seen having her at home since is remarkable and she is now so.....so much more enjoyable. Having had Molly since she was a puppy and now two years old, I was skeptical as to the difference the training would make. The degree of satisfaction we are experiencing is outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend Blue Bridge Dog Training and the expertise of Mr Jeff Leavitt. Thank you so much, Jeff.
I was searching for a trainer with whom my dog & I could both be successful. I found that and more with Blue Bridge Dog Training. Jeff was patient with both of us as we learned new commands. The facility is clean, comfortable and conducive to learning. I chose private lessons. Those lessons were every day and gave me both the opportunity and responsibility to work with each new command before the next training session. A review each day gave the dog & me reinforcement. Questions were encouraged and training directed to my dog's specific needs. I am completely satisfied with my experience.
I was very impressed with the amount of time and training given to our dog Max. He is continuing to learn now that he is back home in his own environment. Jeff was very firm but gentle with Max and also patient with us as he reviewed what we would need to continue to enforce with Max. The instructions given to Max and our booklet to take with us will help as we continue to help Max become a companion to us.
The training that our dogs completed was phenomenal. They were taught to work together and as individuals. Blue Bridge Dog Training highly recommended to anyone that wants a well behaved and compliant companion.
My mom sometimes helps walk Charley. After the training was complete, she said it was like a miracle. She learned the commands and used them with our dog. Gone was the pulling and uncontrollable jumping.
Thank you so much for your help with Cooper. He is still doing well with the commands and is overall less rowdy! This has made life at home much better!
Can't believe the dramatic difference in Tucker in just a few days! I actually feel confident to take him on a walk now without fear of being pulled or unable to get him to listen. Loved the fact that I either got pictures or a video during his time away, it made it a lot easier while he was gone. I also felt like Tucker had been treated very well and loved during his stay.
We are so pleased! We are so impressed with what Ginger has learned, and how quickly she picked up these skills. We were so nervous about leaving her for 21 days, but everything turned out fine! We received tons of updates on Ginger's progress, as well as some videos to demonstrate exactly what she has been doing during her training. There was so much detail with everything!! Jeff was fantastic! Ginger was hesitant at first (she is pretty timid) but by the end of it, I think she was sad to leave! He became one of her best buds!
We were amazed at the progress Molly made in just couple of weeks of training with Jeff. Prior to training I could not walk her because of her pulling and dragging me along. When she returned, she seemed so proud of herself as she walked with her head held high along side me. Just a quiet "wait" command and she patiently stopped and stood by my side until I was ready to continue walking. Amazing!
Blue Bridge Dog Training was perfect for me. Jeff was patient and easy to talk to/work with, a big help because I was apprehensive about Pepper's behavior and my own responsibilities. I feel lucky to have found someone who cared about my dog, despite her problems, enough to show/teach me how to deal with her.
Jeff really did an outstanding job with our Shiloh. More importantly you can tell he deeply cares about the dogs he trains and loves working with them. I could not recommend Jeff any more highly. We've tried s number of other area trainers and techniques - but Jeff and Bluebridge was the right choice.
My dog Bella is a very smart but stubborn German shepherd. Very strong willed and always testing her boundaries. She would not listen with any kind of distraction. After adding a new puppy to the family she became very aggressive and territorial. I began to look online at several different dog trainers in the area. Some never replied, couldn't help, or were just plain unfriendly. Jeff took the time to meet me, was very friendly, and cared about what he was doing. We decided that Bella needed some obedience training to listen and respond better and know who was in charge and maybe that would help her temperament towards her new brother. We sent her to board and train with Jeff and now she is a new dog. I am absolutely AMAZED!! She has so much more respect now and it has improved her quality of life getting to go more places with me and behave wherever she is. It has truly been a life changing experience for our family and I would highly recommend it to anyone from minor to major dog issues. So worth it!! We are so grateful. He is now training the puppy as well! We hope to have two very well trained buds.
We are thrilled by how much Ginger learned in two weeks. She is much more manageable and more fun to be with than when we dropped her off with Jeff. Highly recommended!
All I can say is WOW! Six weeks ago, our dog would've been pulling me on our daily walks, jumping up on every visitor in the home and barking relentlessly every time the door knocked. After six in home private sessions with Jeff, I am happy to report our dog now has a great deal of obedience and is such a joy to be around! It's amazing how it's changed our every day lives. Our dog, seven years old, now knows how to loose leash walk, reliably follow commands such as "sit," "down," and "stay." But the whole process means more than just being able to do these basic commands-- it means that we can invite guests over without our dog barking excessively or jumping up on people. It means I can walk her around town and not worry about her lunging at every person or dog who walks by. It means that I can vacuum the floor without her attacking the vacuum cleaner! Overall, the process was very straightforward and Jeff gave us clear direction as to how to work with our dog. My husband and I both put in a lot of time and energy working with her between sessions, and it was definitely worth the effort. Our friends and family who have seen the progress over the last month and a half are totally impressed! We now have a safer, more peaceful and happy home as a result! We are so thankful for Blue Bridge Dog Training and we would highly recommend Jeff to anyone who needs help training their dog!
UPDATE #1: Things are good here. Brendan and I are expecting a baby on Nov 21! We are very excited. Emmy Lou is doing well. Many friends and family have commented on her much improved behavior. Usually when company comes over we just have her go to her place and stays there until called and then calmly greet people. that works very well. If friends with babies or toddlers come over, we put her in her crate. Most of the time she is quiet in there, although she occasionally needs correction. We agreed that with others' children toddling about, it is not worth the liability to have Emmy out and risk any sort of issue. She still has a tendency to go for peoples toes sometimes but with correction will stop. I find that I just really have to be proactive with her and give her commands right away instead of waiting to see what she will do and then have to correct and redirect her. We are still amazed that we can tell her to lie down from across the room and she will do it! Walks are pleasant without pulling, and most of our life at home with her is very happy and relaxed. So that is all very good. It will be interesting to see how it all works out when we bring the baby home. We are confident that with the tools we have, we will be able to create a happy home where we all co exist, but if we have any trouble with the transition we will definitely ask for help.
UPDATE #2: We just wanted to let you know Emmy Lou is doing great with new baby Lillian! Mostly she ignores the baby. She doesn't try to jump up on us when we hold Lillian or get underfoot when we are carrying her around. The "place" command has been key for us when we just need her to be in a safe place while we are tending to the baby. Emmy Lou remains calm even when Lillian is crying. We have been so pleased and proud of Emmy Lou and thankful that we don't have to worry about her behavior. Thanks again for all you did for us!
We are so happy with the training our dog received at Blue Bridge Dog Training, we are ready to send dog #2! Jeff worked wonders!
I contacted Jeff because my dog Simon was extremely anxious while outside on walks and would bark, lunge, and growl at any dog that came near him. I couldn't be happier with the progress Simon made in such a short period of time. He's so well behaved and attentive to me outside on walks, and is obviously much more confident now that he understands what is expected of him. He has even taken great strides towards behaving when he sees other dogs. Jeff has been great!
I have a Siberian Husky who is very strong willed. After taking him to two weeks of training [at a different trainer], he was still wild and hard to manage. Then Jeff came to the house to meet him, and calmed him down instantly. After staying at Blue Bridge dog training for two weeks, Meeko came home a much calmer and more behaved dog. The transformation was amazing! Jeff brought him back to our house and took the time to show us how to use the training commands. Jeff knows what he is doing and is very professional. He has a special way with Meeko. We are very happy with the results. Thank you Jeff!! I would strongly recommend Blue Bridge Dog Training to every dog owner. He also guarantees the results.
Jeff was great and very helpful and worked around our schedule to receive and return our dog. We couldn't believe how much better he was when we got him back. Will be bringing all of our dogs to Jeff to train and to board when we go on trips! Thanks again for all the help!
We have an 18 month old German Shepherd who only had minimal training. Mr Leavitt worked with him for about 8 days. When he came home he was like a different dog. He has been home for 3 days and very well behaved. Follows the commands and completed each task we have asked. I feel that our trying times are over. If we need additional help we can contact the trainer.
Jeff was amazing with my puppy (Darby). I was able to watch him work with my pup alongside his two more mature dogs and was amazed at the skill and focus and knowledge he had in training. My dog instantly trusted him and responded to his commands and I think having the peer model influence of the other dogs was a huge benefit. Jeff is like The SuperNanny for dogs! What we gained from his competent training and his counseling us has been worthwhile. I highly recommend him
It is critical that dog owners also get trained so that they can effectively maintain their dog's newly learned behaviors. Jeff did a great job of training both our dog and us.
My rescued 5 year old Redbone Coonhound/Boxer mix has leash & fence aggression issues that only seemed to be getting worse no matter what kind of collar or halter I used. Realizing the problem was not getting resolved and new neighbors moving next door, I was desperate. I called Blue Bridge. The professional response was immediate yet friendly and comfortable. Also, the web site was very easy to navigate. My first visit/evaluation was thorough and informative. I've only had two sessions which focused on her problem areas. I was able to go with on those sessions and was given instruction how I can progressively help El Mira. But now I understand and have the confidence to do what needs to be done. Although it will take consistent, every day work to turn the situation around, I strongly feel this will work and actually I must say, I do see progress. Thank You Very, Very Much!
Over the last six month or so I was quite happy to work with Jeff to train my now 2-year old black lab, who, to start with, had pup's independent attitude. Jeff likes dogs and my dog Kodi warmed up quickly to his calm training manner. I did not believe when Jeff who said that eventually Kodi will will enjoy going into his crate in the room, as at the start it was something to be avoided at all costs for him. Now this is his "safe house" , the gate is always open and he loves to go and sleep there when he feels like it.rnrnKodi now walks well on-leash, sit/stay is easy for him, come command has improved greatly - the 40 ft training leash is a great tool to train and have control of the dog. Of course, the training is ongoing and Jeff taught me as well on how to continue to further improve Kodi's behavior. I also found out that he is smarter than I thought.rnrnMust say working with Jeff was great. He was punctual and did not overcharge either. I am happy with the results.
We adopted our lovely Libby from Naperville Area Humane back in Aug of 2013. She is a 2 year old shepard/lab mix and weighs approx 75 lbs. After getting her home and numerous "walk" attempts we did some research and decided to contact Prairie Path Dog Training (Jeff). He responded to my call within the day and we set up training sessions from there. Being Libby was our first pet I was nervous to take her out because I could NOT handle her on the leash. She pulled tremendously and didn't listen to me very well. So Jeff was flexible and courteous to come to us (we live a short distance from him). From Aug 2013-April 2014, Jeff's training expertise has turned our pet around. She responds to all the commands we have worked on and the pulling has decreased almost entirely, (still working on squirrel and rabbit desensitizing though). Jeff has made a world of difference in Libby and addressed all of our current needs. We plan to use PPDT for future training lessons we may need.
We would like to thank Jeff @ Prairie Path Dog Training for his outstanding work with our new puppy, Xena, the Siberian husky. Wow, is this dog a handful! Prior to enrolling her with P.P.D.T., she was literally bouncing off the walls and furniture and counters, etc. Walking her was like flying a kite, the lead was always tight and God only knew what direction she was headed. Now, she responds to a number of different commands around the house and actually makes eye contact with us awaiting her next command on walks. Thanks Jeff for a terrific job with our puppy and good luck on your future projects.
Heidi was about a 1 1/2 year old Golden Retriever, and she would create havoc by climbing up on a nice living room sofa. The owners could not prevent her from doing this, so they put umbrellas and other household items on and around the couch to block access. After one session, the area around the couch was clear and Heidi would stay off.
This was our very first trainee. No testimonial, but she is a really cute pup!
